Ingredients

For the Beef

  • 250g beef sirloin or tenderloin
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

For the Onions and Other Seasonings

  • 2 medium – sized onions
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 piece of ginger, minced
  • 2 scallions, cut into sections
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

Step – by – Step Cooking Process

Marinating the Beef

  1. Cut the beef against the grain into thin slices. Placing the beef in the freezer for 15 – 30 minutes before slicing can make the process easier.
  2. In a bowl, combine 1 tablespoon light soy sauce, 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 1 tablespoon cooking wine, and 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Add the beef slices to the bowl and mix well. Let the beef marinate for at least 15 minutes, allowing it to absorb the flavors.

Preparing the Onions

  1. Peel the onions and cut them into wedges. Separating the onion layers will ensure even cooking.

Stir – Frying

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a wok over high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef slices. Stir – fry quickly to prevent the slices from sticking together. Cook until the beef changes color, about 1 – 2 minutes. Remove the beef from the wok and set it aside.
  2. In the same wok, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir – fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the onion wedges to the wok. Stir – fry for 3 – 4 minutes until the onions become slightly soft and translucent.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the wok. Toss the beef and onions together, ensuring the beef is evenly distributed among the onions.
  5. Add the scallion sections and continue to stir – fry for another 1 minute to combine all the flavors.

Serving

Transfer the Stir – Fried Beef with Onions to a serving plate. Serve it hot with steamed rice or noodles. This dish is not only a favorite at family dinners but can also be a crowd – pleaser at gatherings.
