Coca – Cola chicken wings have become a popular dish, loved for their harmonious blend of the sweet, caramel – like flavor of cola and the savory richness of chicken. It’s incredibly easy to make, and the result is a crowd – pleaser. Here’s how to cook this mouthwatering dish.
Ingredients
For the Chicken
- 8 – 10 chicken wings. Chicken wings are the ideal choice as their shape allows them to soak up the flavors of the sauce.
For the Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons of light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 slices of ginger, minced
- 1 can (330ml) of Coca – Cola
- 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
Step – by – Step Cooking Process
Preparing the Chicken Wings
- Wash the chicken wings thoroughly under running water. Use a sharp knife to make 2 – 3 incisions on both sides of each wing. This helps the seasonings penetrate the chicken and speeds up the cooking process.
- Blanch the chicken wings: Place the wings in a pot filled with cold water. Add a slice of ginger and a tablespoon of cooking wine. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Skim off the foam that rises to the surface. Let the wings boil for 2 – 3 minutes, then drain them and rinse with cold water. This step helps remove any impurities and blood, resulting in cleaner – tasting chicken.
Sautéing the Aromatics
- Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a skillet or a pot over medium – high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger slices. Stir – fry until they become fragrant, which usually takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Adding the Chicken Wings
- Place the blanched chicken wings into the skillet. Stir – fry the wings for 2 – 3 minutes until they turn light golden – brown on both sides. This searing step locks in the juices of the chicken.
Adding Seasonings and Cola
- Pour in 2 tablespoons of light soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce. Stir well to coat the chicken wings evenly with the soy – based seasonings.
- Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper over the wings.
- Open the can of Coca – Cola and pour it into the skillet. The amount of cola should be enough to cover the chicken wings. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the skillet and let the chicken wings simmer for 15 – 20 minutes. During this time, the chicken will absorb the flavors of the cola and seasonings. Remember to flip the wings occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Thickening the Sauce
- After 15 – 20 minutes, uncover the skillet and increase the heat to medium – high. Let the sauce reduce and thicken. This usually takes about 3 – 5 minutes. Stir constantly to prevent the sauce from burning.
Serving
Transfer the Coca – Cola chicken wings to a serving plate. Spoon the thick, flavorful sauce over the wings. This dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice, making it a complete and satisfying meal.
